Introduction
The Beam Deflection Calculator is a free online engineering tool that calculates the maximum beam deflection, slope, and bending moment for common beam loading conditions. It is designed for mechanical engineers, civil engineers, structural designers, students, and anyone performing beam analysis.
This calculator uses the Euler-Bernoulli Beam Theory to provide accurate results for linear elastic beams. It supports both Simply Supported and Cantilever beams subjected to either a Point Load or a Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL).
The calculator automatically handles unit conversions, allowing you to work in metric or imperial units. A live beam diagram also illustrates the support conditions, applied load, and exaggerated deflected shape to help visualize beam behavior.
How to use beam defalcation calculator
1. Choose the appropriate beam and loading condition:
- Simply Supported – Point Load
- Simply Supported – Uniform Distributed Load
- Cantilever – Point Load
- Cantilever – Uniform Distributed Load
2. Choose What You Want to Solve
Select the unknown parameter from the “I want to find” menu:
- Beam Deflection (δ)
- Load (P or w)
- Beam Length (L)
- Modulus of Elasticity (E)
- Moment of Inertia (I)
The calculator automatically updates the required input fields based on your selection.
3. Enter the Known Values
Enter the remaining required values along with their units.
Depending on your selected calculation, you may need to provide:
- Beam Length
- Applied Load
- Young’s Modulus
- Moment of Inertia
- Maximum Deflection
The calculator supports both Metric and Imperial units and performs automatic unit conversion internally
4. Review the Results
The solver displays:
- The selected calculated parameter
- Maximum Beam Slope
- Maximum Bending Moment
- Live Beam Deflection Diagram
- Beam Loading Illustration
Output units can be changed at any time without re-entering the input values.
