How this works stress strain calculator
For a member under simple axial (tension or compression) loading, engineering stress is the applied force divided by the original cross-sectional area: σ = F / A. Engineering strain is the change in length divided by the original length: ε = ΔL / L₀. As long as the material stays within its elastic range, the two are related by Young’s modulus: E = σ / ε.
